Top national small firms energy award for the Monasterboice Inn

Monasterboice Inn has secured a coveted Small Firms Association National Small Business Award for 2019.

Finalists from over 14 counties gathered in the RDS Concert Hall for the event that celebrates the achievements of small business in Ireland and recognises the vital contribution of the sector to the Irish economy. The winners were selected from hundreds of applications received for the 2019 programme.

Donegan’s collected their award for Sustainable Energy after the huge redevelopment at the popular restaurant and bar.

They placed a big emphasis on sustainable energy while building their new conference centre.

They decided to harness a stream for aquatherm energy to provide heating in winter and cooling in summer and replaced gas-fired boilers with heat pumps.

They use EuroSmart, which regulates heating and cooling, depending on daily needs. The new building uses heat from extractor fans and was designed to allow a lot of sunlight in, as well as LED lighting.

It now features a 150-seater restaurant and a conference centre which can hold 350.
